To Sponsors, Players and Volunteers of the Friendship Golf Tournament
On behalf of Sophisticated Gents of Florida and The African American Club of the Villages, thank you so much for making the 2019 Friendship Golf Tournament a success and congratulations to the tournament and raffle winners! Through your hard work, donations and participation, we will be able to continue to help students graduating from our local tri-county area high schools with expenses in their pursuit of higher education. This cannot happen without you.
We had a great tournament. Although the weather was cool, we had great sportsmanship, contests, prizes and camaraderie. Special thanks to Paloma Telfort, a past scholarship recipient, for sharing her experiences and hopes from her first year of college at the luncheon following the tournament.
Take a look at the PICTURES taken (by Reggie Hayes) during this year’s tournament and come back to the website in the Spring for dates and information on next year’s tournament and for the June Scholarship Luncheon where the proceeds from the Scholarship Fundraiser will be awarded. Thank you once again and we are looking forward to partnering with you next year.

The Friendship Golf Tournament Scholarship Fundraiser is an annual event where local sponsors and members of the Sophisticated Gents of Florida and The African American Club of The Villages partner to support high school students in the central Florida communities of Lake, Marion, and Sumter counties. Net proceeds from the tournament, along with monetary donations from sponsors and members, go to our Scholarship Fund. This fund provides scholarships to selected high school seniors pursuing higher education. Most of the scholarship recipients are from low income families, and the overwhelming majority are first generation in their families to go to college. The recipients are recognized at a Scholarship Award Luncheon held every year in June.
While the golf tournament is our culminating event, sponsorships and donations are key elements in our fundraising effort for the scholarship fund. As such, you do not have to be a golfer to donate to the fundraiser. Your participation in the tournament and/or by individual donations go to a very good cause – supporting the higher education goals of our high-school youths! You can sign-up to play golf in the tournament (or to purchase tickets for the luncheon) by clicking HERE . You can donate to the scholarship fundraiser or become a sponsor of the tournament by clicking HERE . Thanks in advance for your contribution!
